Havoc Mindset and Musings

Fastpitch women’s softball is exciting. As we sit here in the first quarter of 2024, NCAA softball is the 3rd most watched sport in all of college athletics behind Men's football and Men's basketball. There will be over 1000 games broadcast this year on ESPN channels. The sport is growing and the exposure has never been better.

Most of our student-athletes will not play on ESPN.  Over half will not attend a college to play softball. If they do choose softball to gain entrance into a better school, or, "dream school," we feel very happy for them and consider them lucky. Playing at the next level, ANY level, is hard and requires a tremendous amount of time, energy and sacrifice. You can ask the myriad of our athletes who are at, "the next level," Families that gravitate to our program want to be a part of a, "program on the grow," and want their daughters to find the love of the sport through hard work in a challenging environment where they feel valued for who they are, not what they are. After doing this for over a decade, we find that many families want their daughters to be better softball players now yet are worried about where their daughters will be when softball is over. While we all admire the women that play on ESPN, a majority of our students are not all chasing a dream, mostly a fantasy, of playing for a BIG or SEC school. If that is your goal, we can help you. We train like college programs and our coaches learn from the very best in the game. Most of our kids will play at smaller schools due to their academic prowess and interests.

When a family entrusts their daughter to us, they know we create an environment that is fun, full of laughter and challenging. The two, for HAVOC, go hand in hand. Our families also know that we will assist them in navigating the higher education process and help their daughter winnow their strivings to match their talents and find the best, "fit," as they matriculate through our program and on to the next chapter in their lives. The needs of our u10s are different than our 18Us. The differences in our 18u are as wide the our country is long. As the students get older and their needs and event horizons change, we meet each student-athlete and their family where they are at and try to walk with them on their journey, as it is theirs, not ours. Sometimes we continue to walk together, sometimes, our job is to open different doors for them in other places.

We teach the game in a fun and competitive, yet caring environment. Our staff, even in the summer, put academics before the sport and we work to create a positive environment for your young scholastically minded softball players so they can, "struggle," to, "grow," in their time. We strive to make little improvements in each and every drill and we coach our young scholar athletes in a way that is supportive and not punitive. We discuss the mental part, give, "the why," for each and every drill and we strive to show the athletes that a positive and predictive mindset will increase the likelihood that they reach their individualized goals.  In that, we focus more on process than result.

We believe that you entrust your kids to us to help them grow and become not just better softball players but better people. We put them in challenging situations in practice, the weight room and the field often.  We participate in tournaments that stretch our talents to succeed without having families spend inordinate amounts of time and money for the privilege of playing.  We visit numerous professional workplaces and college campuses to encourage our kids, even the 12us, to begin thinking about their, "next steps," so they can start to figure out what is best for them and to give them a slice of what the next level of life might be like. We have contacts with numerous professionals, coaches and trainers to put your daughter in the best possible position to move on after HAVOC to military service, a vocation, a job, or to college (D1, DIII, NAIA, etc) and participate in athletics as either a player, a staff member or, just a more informed fan who will love this game and support women's athletics for years to come. Our staff hopes that when someone's Havoc career is over they say that their time with us was incredible, we helped them set their life's pathways, they have forever friends and my Havoc teams, regardless of the sport, were where they gave their all and the best team(s), ever.

Thank you for taking an interest in our program. We hope you find a program that fits for you. If you have any questions, give Coach Rob a call. He's always up for a chat.
